Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens on how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health challenge. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Topics Covered:
Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better and use their strengths to stay well.
Participants will be required to register in advance and complete 2 hours of self-paced training prior to attending the 4 hour live Zoom training. I will send you a separate email with your login information and Zoom link within 24 hours after registration.
MHFA Required Post-Work:
After completing the Zoom training, participants will need to complete a final exam and evaluation. Once passing those, participants will receive their certification that is valid for 3 years.
